Samuel Ndirangu Wambugu January 1, 1945 - June 9, 2024

It is with heavy hearts we honor and celebrate the life of Samuel Ndirangu Wambugu (Joshua Kariungu), a remarkable man whose presence and impact was profound. Samuel was born in 1945 in the tranquil village of Witima, Othaya, Nyeri, to loving parents Mishek Wambugu and Mary Gachambi. He grew up alongside his siblings, Esther Wairuri, the late Matthew Kamaru, the late Jane Gathoni, and Joseph Waititu, in a family filled with love and strong values.

Samuel’s educational journey began at Karima and continued at Nyeri Boys, where he developed a thirst for knowledge that would guide him throughout his life. His professional path saw him first at Kenya Railways and later at Kenya Shell, before he embraced his entrepreneurial spirit and became a dedicated businessman.

In 1970, Samuel married his beloved wife Lucy Wangari, beginning a partnership built on love, respect, and shared dreams. They were blessed with six children: Gilbert Wambugu, Susan Njambi, Judith Muthoni, Boniface Nderitu, Harriet Nyambura, and Immaculate Mumbi. As a father, Samuel was a beacon of wisdom and strength, guiding his children with a loving hand and an open heart.

Samuel’s family extended beyond his immediate children. He was a proud grandfather to Brenda Muthoni, Colin Wambugu, Joe Ndirangu, Keegan, and Madison. His role as an uncle to many further exemplified his commitment to family and the nurturing of strong, enduring bonds.

A pillar of the community, Samuel’s generosity, kindness, and leadership were felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Samuel generously gave his time and resources to bettering this community we all know and love. He was instrumental in founding the Buruburu social hall, developing facilities at Buruburu 1 primary school during his tenure as the chairman, and was an active member of the Buruburu Catholic church. His contributions to the community were vast and varied, leaving a legacy of service and dedication that will be remembered for generations.

Samuel led a full and impactful life, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him. Though he departed this earth on June 9th, 2024, his legacy lives on through his descendants, and the many lives he touched. We find solace in knowing he is now at peace after 79 years of Life Service dedicated to his faith, family and community. His spirit and the lessons he imparted will continue to live on in our hearts and actions.

As we say our final goodbyes, let us celebrate Samuel’s life, remembering him as a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, supportive brother, and a stalwart of the community. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may we carry forward his legacy of love, strength, and community.

It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of my beloved father, Samuel Wambugu Ndirangu. A pillar of strength, resilience, and unwavering integrity, my father was more than just a parent; he was my mentor and my guiding light. He taught me the true meaning of resilience, steadfastness, and good character, values that have not only shaped my life but have been passed down to my own son. His lessons in business ethics have been my compass, guiding me through the complexities of life with a steadfast moral code.

Our father/son talks are cherished memories that I will carry with me forever. In these moments, he imparted wisdom, shared his experiences, and instilled in me the importance of perseverance and dedication. His legacy lives on in the lessons he taught me and in the principles that I continue to uphold.

As we mourn his loss, let us also celebrate his life and the indelible impact he had on all of us. May we find comfort in knowing that his spirit will always be with us, guiding us as he always did.

  2. Joseph Wambugu says

It has been such an incredible privilage and honour to come from the same womb with Samuel Ndirangu. He was such a towering pillar of hope inspiration to the Wambugu family. A dependable light house who fought the good fight with honor and dignity and finished the race with grace. I will miss you brother. I already do. Rest in eternal peace till we meet again.

  3. Colin Wambugu says

On June 9th, 2024, our family lost a pillar of strength, a beacon of wisdom, and a source of unconditional love. Samuel Ndirangu Wambugu, a fair father of six children and a devoted husband to our beloved mother, has left an indelible mark on our hearts and lives.

Grandpa was a man of principle, especially when it came to the future of our family. His unwavering belief in the power of education shaped our paths and guided our steps. He was strict in his vision, ensuring that we understood the importance of learning and striving for excellence.

Beyond academics, he instilled in us the values of self-discipline and perseverance. His teachings went beyond words; they were embedded in his actions and the way he lived his life. Through his example, we learned to navigate life’s challenges with grace and determination.

Grandpa’s commitment extended beyond our family. He was a dedicated community leader, serving as the chairman of Buruburu Primary School. In this role, he was instrumental in developing school facilities and improving the educational environment for countless children. His leadership was marked by numerous fundraisers, supporting students studying overseas, aiding the sick, and assisting families of deceased members within Buruburu.

Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit, lessons, and love will continue to guide us. We honor his memory by striving to live up to the values he cherished and the dreams he had for us.

Rest in peace, Grandpa. Your legacy lives on in each of us and in the community you so dearly loved and served.

It is with sadness to hear about the demise of Mzee.

He was a champion and best example of good neighbourliness.

Growing up during my teen/ youth, he would come true when parents were broke, “mwezi iko corner”. Mbugus shop was the closest help…

He had a soft spot for the youth, never bypassed without a word.
Many would not allow guys to hang around there business but Mbugus shop was a landmark, meeting point before old boys depart for night parties.

Also, he was never happy to see any child at home while others are at school.

He got concerned as a parent.
He definitely was a good parental example of the 80’s and 90’s generation.

We loved you but God loved you more Mzee Mbugus.

To family, friends and all neighbors Buru ph1.
Take heart and may God comfort you during this difficult time.

Fondly remembered, May Almighty God rest his soul in eternal peace.
