Dicho Elizabeth Clement July 27, 1982 - August 9, 2021

Born on July 27, 1982, in Juba, South Sudan, Elizabeth was the beloved daughter of Clement Moses and Fatna Unice. She grew up in a warm and caring family that instilled in her the values of kindness, compassion, and a deep faith in Christian principles. She was a loving daughter, devoted mother, widow, and an invaluable member of the community.

Elizabeth was a devoted mother to her two children, Francis Maiamba Obur (13 years old, in standard 7), and Jonathan Bule Obur (12 years old, in standard 5). She took immense pride in nurturing and guiding her children, despite the challenges life threw at her. Elizabeth’s life was marked by both joy and sorrow, having lost her husband, Ochan Francis Gerald Obur, on August 22, 2010, due to hypertension, making her a widow at the time of her own passing.

With a strong personality, Elizabeth was known for her unwavering spirit, friendliness, kindness, and her proactive approach to life. She had an innate ability to make friends and touch the hearts of those around her.

Her strong Christian faith was a pillar of her life. Elizabeth was a dedicated member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and actively participated in various church activities. She was a member of the New Life SDA Church on 5th Gong Avenue, Nairobi, where she was involved in several church departments. Her commitment extended to her involvement in the Master Guides (Flying Marines) of New Life SDA Church, and she was an active teacher in the Children Ministry.

Elizabeth was not only a devout Christian but also an active member of the Association of Adventist Young Professionals. Her melodious voice graced the choirs of various churches, including the ECD Model Choir, Elshadai Choir, New Life SDA Church Choir, and the Soul Singers, where her beautiful voice resonated with the congregation.

Professionally, Elizabeth was an accomplished Education Attachee, specializing in educational administration and management, at the South Sudan Embassy in Nairobi. She was a committed social worker who excelled as a trainer, organizer, and manager in community associations in both South Sudan and Uganda. Her leadership capabilities were evident as she served as the Secretary of the Makerere University Southern Sudanese Students Association (MUSSSA) and later as the Secretary General of the IIEP/UNESCO-ATP Trainees’ Association during the year 2013/2014. Elizabeth was also an assistant class representative during her studies for a Doctor of Education (D.Ed.) in Educational Planning and Management at the University of Nairobi.

Elizabeth Dicho leaves behind a legacy of faith, kindness, and dedication to her family, community, and her church. Her absence will be deeply felt, but her memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. Ms. Elizabeth Dicho was aged 39 at the time of her untimely departure,

The True Servant that was Dicho Elizabeth Clement

It required only one hour to understand Elizabeth and her zeal for service in God’s vineyard, selfish service to our children.

It was 2019 at the Pathfinder International Camporee held in Oshkosh that she selflessly nurtured the youngest of the campers that were placed under her able care, ensuring they attended activities and trainings that ensured her team received the highest number of honours amongst the other teams in our group. Her commitment and love for the children under her care were unparalleled. She focused on her mandate as a teacher and the results were evident.

I remember the last day when we were parking and departing under morning rains, her commitment to ensure all items were safely in the buses before she left for the airport to return to Kenya to take care of his sick father, when the rest of us headed to Michigan for post camporee activities. I remember her tears for having to leave her team behind – that was love and selflessness that only can be rewarded by God her Creator.

She did care for our children as a teacher in children ministry and pathfinder. It is now our turn to take care of her children – to the level we can.

Her works shall follow her and the rewards await her when Jesus returns to take His own. And God shall reward her here on earth by taking good care of her sons Jonathan and Francis whom we place in God’s loving hands of care, to be their Provider, Sustainer and only hope.

    AMEN.

    MA SALAMA SHAQIQA

  2. George Ambatta says

Our ways never crossed paths apart from the one time when I hosted my cousin Jacqueline Mwango brides maid’s, whom she was among.

During the travel to the Pathfinder camporee in 2019, she was one of the staff who calmed our anxiety by sending us updates and the much needed photos that our children under their care were well. And that was the case until the camporee ended.

Thereafter, her passion and dedication for service in the children ministry and music among others quickly became evident.

It’s my prayer that the God whom she served will take care of her sons as they go out and when they get back. And grant them strength and courage to face tomorrow, because He lives and shall be their Father with the hope of seeing their beloved mother in the resurrection morning.

  3. John Kamande says

Our Sincere and Deep Condolences to the family that she has left behind. May The Lord Jesus Comfort her family and friends and may He given them peace that only He can give and continue preparing them for His second coming.

We can only treasure the moments we shared in The Lord’s Vineyard as we served together in the Newlife SDA Church Choir.

May God Bless her family and friends and keep them safe.

    Amen

  4. Moses Majiwa says

Your smile was always infectious, your personality always touching. your music ministry was always a blessing. God takes away the righteous to preserve them from the evil of this world. However painful it feels on your abrupt departure, we pray that God had already prepared you for the new Jerusalem. May he protect your children and those of us left behind. Fare thee well Elizabeth

Teacher Liz was always on fire for Christ. She served the Lord diligently, with all her heart, soul and mind. She was a very good team player in our team-The Flying Marine PF Club.Always ready to serve when called upon even in emergency situations. She was all rounded but she specifically liked drills and marching. She motivated me and enabled me build my confidence in this area. She could always offer a kindly greeting and a warm smile and would check on me even after I left Kenya to the Uk.Though sorrows like sea billows now roll, the Lord has taught me to say -It is well with my Soul.In the sweet by and by we shall meet on that beautiful shore. To Mayamba and Bule , the Lord will take care of you.He will never leave you or forsake you.

  6. Eva Boi says

My journey with Tr. Dicho started in 2018, she had just joined the Newlife Church and was trying to find a church she could make her home.

Talking to her about the Children’s ministry (Proactive) and the Clubs convinced her to stay. She intimated to me that she was a trained MG back in Juba and that is where our friendship started.

On becoming Flying Marines Director I introduced her as the Friends Class Teacher a job she did with so much zeal. At that time we had a problem of committed staff. And Liz, Irene Omogi and I formed a prayer band of sorts.

Dicho would always call me when I am stuck to ask “Director what do we do? Where can I help?”

In most camps we attended she remained my room mate because she understood the silent battles you would go through when leading a troop. You end up spending sleepless nights in prayer.

When doing decorations on Pathfinder special Days sometimes Liz and Edward Omollo will be the only ones joining me to assist and thereafter offer to drop me home in the hours of the night. In Machakos we literally spoke to God. In Oshkosh we cried and laughed at ourselves each time. Her parents knew she was in control when they were ailing.

She had great plans for Mayamba and Bule and would send me videos of how great my boys were performing in school.

Liz your energy was unmatched. I long to meet you in heaven some day. And sing the same songs we sang in the Director’s tent. 😭😭😭

As I write here she will not read this I wish I wrote it while she was alive to know how I felt.

    Good bye my Sister.

I met Liz and I knew she was a true definition of humility. She was kind hearted and very committed. She once asked me, I love singing very much, and I love working with children. She was a trained master guide, and her height would make you think she was a soldier. Yes, not armed forces but a soldier in the Kingdom of heaven.
So because we were trying to build a curriculum based pathfinder club with 70% in-house activities we agreed that she does what she can do then go to the church choir. She took my advice and diligently did it.
We actually said, if you are happy and you know it, do them all.
She had the zeal for curriculum. Zeal that kids learn and get awarded with honors.
As we planned kibidula, when we were only 4 pax she would occasionally join. When she called or asked you a question and reffered to you with your title or teacher, it was honest. You would feel it.
She really wanted to go with us but for the private reasons she told me about, she couldn’t go.
When things became very hot, she cooled our hearts down. She once told me, nothing is too hard for Jesus.
When I could not come to Newlife thereafter, she checked on me.
She sent me every link to her music so that I could watch on YouTube.
I don’t know whether this changed, but she feared drowning in the pool. We were once on a social Sunday, and she said, “bwana deputy if I drown it’s you.. You know I have never done this before.. Asceh and I really laughed 😂. She came in and we had fun playing water games.
I have lost people I love, I have lost my best friend, with her lose, I have lost a good friend, a fellow comrade. The definition of humility, the definition of honesty and the definition of some so true.
I can’t imagine that I will one day enter the gates of newlife and not meet you again.
Meeting is a miracle and she was one.
Thank God for allowing me to meet this wonderful soul. Thank you Liz for being part of our life.
    You will be missed.

Teacher dicho Liz, was my co worker in service to the Lord in the flying Marine club a true friend and a real team player, she loved doing drills and matching which I introduces her into it and we shared a lot of drill staff together.
Liz also like knot tying, and I remember working with her so closely in readiness to the NAPAC fair in 2018 which made the flying Marine club to perform well and carry home the trophies and medals.

We as the marines we shall miss Liz dearly!!!

It’s so much darker when a light goes out than it would have been if it had never Shone.

    Till the resurrection morning!!

  12. Ongala Maurice says

I met Liz in the church choir and in the Masterguide classes. I have never seen anyone so committed in serving God as Liz. Towards her last days on earth, she decided to launch her solo gospel music career and requested me to be the MC during the Sunday Concert. I fortunately I had commitments upcountry and wasn’t able to be there for her. From that day, because of my many travels upcountry, we never had a chance to meet until her demise.

Our eyes are sodden with tears, but seeing the happenings in our world today, I’m certain and the Lord is coming soon and in a little while we shall see Liz again.

  13. ECD Model Choir says

Where does one begin with a personality like Dicho?
Her height made her instantly noticeable but her quick smile and laughter left a lasting impression. It wouldn’t take long to discover her generous spirit, love for God and humanity (especially children), nurturing nature, gift of encouragement and her passion for singing.
She was our Choir Secretary and faithfully discharged her duties with the zeal that was typical of everything she did. Dicho literally lived up to the mantra “I WILL GO”! She was ever ready to go on the errands of her Lord regardless of the circumstances. The more challenges life threw her way, the closer she pressed to God. This culminated in her penning and recording songs based on her personal experiences with God. She believed the songs would encourage many others who were going through tough situations and whom she may not be able to reach. If a member was discouraged on account of bereavement, illness, family struggles or financial constraints, Dicho would share a song to encourage them.
Those who were recipients of Dicho’s hospitality and generosity can attest to her selflessness. We’d visit with her family and she would try to send off her guests with everything in her kitchen. Her signature sugar cane juice was a ministry altogether its own. Since we resumed in-person meetings after COVID-19 struck, Dicho’s sugar cane juice has been part of our choir experience.
Elizabeth was a full-time missionary. Christianity was not a cloak she adorned on Sabbath then discarded during the week. Our interactions with people from circles outside her religious sphere proved that she was a full-time ambassador for Jesus. There was no off-peak in the life of Dicho but a constant flame burning for Christ both in season and out of season. Her life was a rebuke to us because the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob was, in a very real sense, the God of Dicho.
Dicho was a prayer warrior and so naturally, she was a member of the choir’s prayer band which met weekly for a season of prayer and fasting. During the last day of prayer and fasting before her demise, she insisted on singing her favourite hymn, Be Still My Soul, which was a personal encouragement to her. Her birthday had been the previous week and we had planned to cut a cake in her honour during a scheduled meeting on Sabbath evening. This was not to be. We are still reeling from the shock and are yet to come to terms with her sudden departure.
While we will miss our sister terribly, we rejoice in the blessed hope that she will be part of the heavenly choir when Jesus comes for His bride. May we all strive to live wholly for Jesus, that we may meet her on that glorious resurrection day. We believe that the Almighty God who has a special regard for widows and orphans will keep Mayamba and Jonathan until that day as well. May the God of comfort give peace to all who have been deeply affected by this loss.

  14. Enoch Onguru says

Dicho was so passionate with whatever she decided to do, atleast for the 3 years I got to know her.
May God be with the mum and kids. It was so sudden and heartbreaking to lose her but God knows best and we trust Him.

  15. Dorothy Akinyi says

Sister Dicho was a dedicated lady in everything she did.
I got to know her more as we served in the Newlife choir. She would always be concerned when one missed choir practices.
On the fateful day that she had an accident we were together at around 2.30pm and her last words were, the camp meeting is around the corner. We need to prepare as church choir.
Little did I know that was the last time I was seeing her.

Dicho was such a dedicated person and served in various departments in the church.I wonder how she managed to be in all those departments.

I pray that God will make a way for the boys and mum.

In a little while we are going home.

  16. Oyet Charles Salfa says

Prayers and fond memories are what we have to remember our dearly departed. My most heartfelt condolences.

  17. Taban James Jino says

Sister Elizabeth Dicho had been a very influential person I ever know. I came to know her in 2008, but 2009 i knew her better. Basically when El-Shaddai Choir was starting up in Juba, she was one of the pioneers that was so dedicated and I have not seen her missing practice.
Another best encounter was when El-Shaddai choir went for TMI in Rhino camp Uganda, she was so instrumental in health talks and actively participating in all the the set up and leading many other programs as well.
Another instrumental activity was the El-Shaddai anniversary, when we made up 10 years in the ministry of singing 🎶, she was the key players in drawing up the program setup and all went successfully. We really miss you sister Dicho, may God strengthen the family and the church at this trying and difficult moment. Elizabeth Resurrection Is Promiaed. Till we meet again at the feet Jesus. May God take care of your two children.

  18. Ruth Ogando says

    TRIBUTE TO MY SISTER DICHO
I met Dicho Clement 6 years ago on a Sunday as we organized for a trip as AAYP. She was new in the country and was looking for a group she can belong to in Church (the previous Sabbath was her first to come to Newlife.) She was referred to me as I was the leader by then; we have been friends since that time.
Dicho was so passionate to serve the Lord! Overtime she became a member of different groups in the Church and her ministry in singing was just awesome. Everywhere she served, an indelible mark was left.
She loved everyone and you could notice that from her smile that was permanently pegged on her face. She made many friends easily and maintained them. He could address ladies as “My Sister.” She was too benevolent and she loved to give a lot without expecting return. Our trips were awesome as she could share a lot of life’s experiences/ testimonies confirming where the Lord has brought her from. One time we shared a room in one of the trips and we talked up to 2am.
When things couldn’t work, she knew it’s was the plan of God thus no need of stressing yourself. She was a strong believer of unwavering faith and prayers. She was so hard working, faithful and honest in her dealings. She had a listening ear to every person regardless of their caliber and could go an extra mile just to make sure that you are comfortable. Her hospitality level was high more so whenever we visited her home. She was ready to prepare sumptuous meals for all of us minus any assistance.
Last year when Corona was at the peak, she had bought a sugarcane juicer and I remember she waited for me in town for almost two hours to gift me with one litre of that nutritious juice, a vey humbling experience. When we met we hugged and cried cause of what we were going through but still her assurance that we ought to trust in God no matter what. (Ooh! she was the only lady in my life who could hug me by lifting me up and then swinging me round cause of my short stature.)
When she was looking for a group to do her music, she called to consult with me and by then she had contacted “Franklin and Martin producers.” I expressed to her that they were doing good work citing the ones I had watched from them earlier. She then exclaimed “Ooh my sister I am done searching” she then gave me a date so that I could join her for the shooting but I couldn’t make because my mother was sick. Later on she gifted me with the Audio of the music she had already done.
On 7th August, 2021 AAYP department was to serve on that Sabbath. I requested on the group and she was the only who responded expressing her interest to serve. We finalized everything to await Sabbath. Ooooh that was our last communication! She had an accident on Friday and she rested on Monday Evening.

  19. Christine Onguru says

I had met Dicho before through my brother, she loved kids and everything around that.
But I loved her when we ministered at Mt. Olives Camp meeting 18-24th July 2021.
She picked us up at 6.30am! (another teacher and I) and dropped us off daily, what a big heart she had. She chatted all the way of how good and faithful God was to her. She was passionate to give her boys the best.
Her energies soared during her teaching time: singing time😍. I can tell you she did it zealously. I was so blessed and excited at the same time to help her out on this just to ensure she did it.. ‘ Tr. Christine, let us use your phone to play it is better than mine..’ She said daily and we did!
I remember when Bro. G asked for prayer warriors to hold a fast, she volunteered on the spot! Oh how she believed in prayers! LORD help me believe as she did.
That week defined our friendship..oh how shot lived it has been😌😔. I listened to her songs, I still do..the God of ‘Fursa’ touches me, I prayed for her 2nd chance but God knows it all.
On That Camp Sabbath, she was so overjoyed to receive her gift, I can only imagine how broad that smile will be to receive the crown of glory with many stars on it! Oh Liz, may Yahweh the great I AM, take your boys and embrace them until then.!
    Until then, Oriti nyarwa!

Tr. Elizabeth, I’ll miss you. Camp outs will never be the same again without you. You kept us in stitches as you told us stories. More so we also discussed deep issues. Your commitment to the Pathfinder Club especially at Oshkosh was awesome. You were an example to me in being diligent & faithful in serving God!

Today we celebrate the life of an upright Lady who rests as she lies in death. It wont be long then the LORD will return to receive His own.

May we all be comforted, the Children & Family even as we, the Pathfinder Family, mourn the death of Tr. Elizabeth.

I remember Elizabeth as an incredibly strong, resourceful, fun and smart woman who had an unique strength and resilience to overcome whatever struggle came her way. I’m sure that while she may not be happy with how she was taken from her loved ones she is already turning her new place into a better place. My thoughts and prayers are with her children, her family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.

  25. Christine Edwards says

I met Elizabeth when she came to IIEP-UNESCO in Paris, France, to do a Masters in Educational Planning. It was IIEP’s 50th anniversary. We had a big party for the graduation ceremony, and I have many pictures of it with Elizabeth in them. She was a radiant, tall, strong, smiling woman. She was kind and fun. Such a positive vibe always that attracted us to her for wonderful conversations. At IIEP we are a family and she was a part of that family. We all remember her well and are so deeply saddened by her terrible passing, under such circumstances, so unfair for such the bright sun that she was in our sky. We all wept and mourned her passing and had difficulty understanding… And we offer our deepest condolences to her children who are now without their father and mother. With love, Christine Edwards, IIEP-UNESCO, Paris.
